The in-person art therapy groups are designed to enable everyone to find a way to participate.
We meet on a weekly basis. I will set up the art materials and help participants get started. The sorts of art materials I bring will depend on the needs of the group. The art materials could include anything from buttons, paint, pastels to seasonal objects like flowers or pinecones. The flexibility of the art therapy group allows everyone to engage in a way which is meaningful to them. For some participants this may mean using the art materials in a sensory exploration way, touching, holding and exploring the art materials and resources. For others they may wish to use the materials in a more traditional way, drawing, painting, collaging. I have some beautiful wooden sensory fiddle objects, which can be really helpful for those who are feeling anxious.
In art therapy participants create art about whatever is on their mind, it isn't a class. The art process and sensory exploration aspects are priority rather than a finished product. The groups are gentle, this is the participants time. I am on hand to make sure everyone feels seen and heard, supporting the participants' mental health.
